Design: De Sede Design-Team
Model: DS 47

Udførelse: The form of this highly individual model is based on the natural qualities of the neck leather used - the 5 mm-thick bullhide with its natural and quite distinctive neck folds give the product its unmistakable appearance. Especially fascinating in this model is how on every part the leather is laid in one piece, starting from the outside and working inward.

DS 1165

Design: Hugo De Ruiter
Model: DS 1165

Udførelse: The new bed collection from the house of de Sede celebrates the rediscovery of divine sleep and thereby redefines that old saying about "making your bed and lying on it". This is thanks to a design principle that follows closely in the footsteps of the DS-164 and DS-165 sofas - both of which already enjoy cult status. The bed-heads can be adjusted to precisely the right position for every occasion: from front to rear, from left to right. This makes it a true premiere in bed design. The DS-1164/1165 models guarantee that any hint of boredom in the bedroom is most definitely a thing of the past. These beds bear eloquent witness to how daring design can play delightfully with sensuality to conjure up unique new vistas for the human imagination. Added to this comes an intriguing choice of shapes. But the practical element has not been forgotten: standardised elements can be used for the slatted frames and mattresses thus allowing customers to choose their beds "inner selves" to suit their own individual requirements. These beds provide the ideal spot for virtually untrammelled dreaming - both by night and by day.

Design: Antonella Scarpitta
Model: DS 7

Udførelse: This latest creation for de Sede by Italian designer Antonella Scarpitta is based on a lounge concept. She has designed a cubic sofa that is strictly reduced to the essentials. This transforms her new model into a timeless object for practical use as well as for decoration. Elegant lines, unparalleled seating comfort and a modular concept that makes for a wealth of potential applications are further attractive features of this outstanding sofa. In addition to its clean-cut form, this design also appeals thanks to its interesting, concealed function: the low rear-sections that are so typical for lounging can be folded upwards if required to provide comfortable back support - for instance, for reading. This unmistakable programme consists of three different sofas, five stools and four supplementary units which make it possible to create a wealth of different combinations - such as corner groups.

Udførelse: Antonella Scarpitta's trademark is eye-catching style imbued with an authenticity that is unlikely to be encountered elsewhere in the realm of design any time soon. Her latest creation for de Sede - the DS-3 - is an uncompromising, individual approach to form that draws the eye and stirs the desire to own seating such as this. It is nothing less than the uncluttered translation of a heartfelt quest for perfection. The concept behind the DS-3 deliberately stresses the sofa's inimitable form, which - with the cubist lines of its seating - ensures comfort "de haute gamme". Each tiny nuance is flawless to the very last detail, while the sofa's availability in a variety of widths adds yet further to its attractiveness. But this is not all: the DS-3 can be extended with corner and extension elements to create a perfect little living environment. One so peerless that it maintains its intrinsic integrity while radiating a new voluptuousness of design that conveys a deep-seated aesthetic appeal.

Design: Antonella Scarpitta
Model: DS 4

Udførelse: Ever since she created her DS-7 and DS-5 models, Antonella Scarpitta's name has stood for design that simply will not countenance the commonplace. In form and content, this new sofa follows on from the ideas behind her DS-5 and bears all the hallmarks of a design masterpiece, incorporating the inspiration of seeking aesthetic appeal in elegant simplicity. Its overwhelming attraction springs from a daring interplay of materials that harmoniously melds the steel geometry of its frame with the superlative smoothness of the leather upholstery. With its backrest slightly higher than in the DS-5, Antonella Scarpitta's new creation is the epitome of genuine excellence. Her inimitable design makes everything visible - an entire grammar of unencumbered form and understated elegance. The DS-4 is a clear affirmation by the designer of her commitment to plumb the depths of a particular style. Her skill lies not in continually producing different shapes and forms or flaunting a vast array of materials, but in her fundamental belief that furniture should be endowed with a clear identity. It is this concept that makes the seating Antonella Scarpitta creates so sublimely unique.

Udførelse: The DS-5 exudes a sense of infinite peace. A peace that is nigh on tangible: … "tranquillo" describes it to a T! Antonella Scarpitta has in fact done nothing other than design seating cubes with slim elegant armrests that virtually float above the ground. The result is Italianità, purist-elegant lines and an item of furniture just made for the lounge, where the spirit of dolcefarniente can be celebrated each day to the full. The deep backrests so typical of the lounging style fold up individually to make the snuggest of supports. The DS-5 reflects in all the facets of its design an "inner rightness", a faultless balance between comfort and elegance. Its height above the ground gives it a distinctive appeal that invites us to kick off the shackles of terra firma.

Design: Hugo De Ruiter
Model: DS 164

Udførelse: In the end, everything coalesces blithely in Tête-à-Tête: idea, person and object to form a splendid collage of the imagination. But this sofa by Hugo de Ruiter is also a marriage with quality. The modular seating system boasts expressive, sculp-tured lines. Inspired by Na-ture, the absolute formal reduction of de Ruiter's furniture contrives magnificent snapshots of sensuous landscapes. The playful design of the DS 164, its escape from the thraldom of linear pattern liberates the living environment from the shackles of the humdrum. As if it were a joyful metaphor for a classic cliché from the world of films: man and woman sitting together in a bathtub, face to face, letting those little tales of everyday events drift slowly by. The '85 Chateau Mouton Rothschild perfectly rounds off the picture of well-being. It is the warm feeling that ensnares us when we stretch out in the DS 164 Tête-à-Tête: in total all-embracing contentment. This de Ruiter sofa celebrates with us a veritable feast of the senses, which themselves are just that tad confused: nothing remains quite as it shall become!

Design: Hugo De Ruiter

Udførelse: It is not a sofa. Nor is it a sofa group. And it is certainly not a neatly arranged row of armchairs. What it is is a matchless seating environment that calls to mind the great masterpieces of landscape gardening. Or a perfectly fashioned town en miniature. In his inner eye, Hugo de Ruiter envisaged an unending play of possible additions and variations when he put his concept for the DS-165 down on paper. The result is a new design for contemporary society in its ever-growing quest for the structures of security in the midst of the breakneck change of information technology. The adjustable backrests enable new seating positions to be achieved at will. And thanks to the arrangement of rectangular seating elements, the sofa can develop to fit every living area as if it were a growing organism. You can turn through 360 degrees on Hugo de Ruiter's sofa - with the armrests following on smoothly as required. It heralds in a rediscovery of the pleasure of adapting life to one's prevailing mood. The DS-165 represents an optimistic start into the 21st century and is predestined to become a cult object in the future.

Design: Hugo De Ruiter
Model: DS 166

Udførelse: The DS -166 from Hugo de Ruiter can justifiably lay claim to being unique and unrepeatable. The original idea was based on an artistic principle, yet without neglect of functionality. The outer form of the armchair has all the quality of a sculpture thanks to its upward tapering lines. This in turn results not from a mere whim of the designer or from the proverbial wet finger held aloft to see which way the wind is blowing. To the contrary: it is the palpable consequence of the inherent laws of ergonomics. What Hugo de Ruiter is attempting to do with the DS-166 is to express the idea of comfort and security through the swell of the armchair’s lines. And it is a security that anyone sitting in the DS-166 feels most profoundly. In figurative terms, his design blends the concepts of guarding and cosseting. The armchair’s swivel-tilt mechanism additionally helps underpin a sense of the lightness of being. In the DS-166, the grande geste of design becomes a harbinger of comfort, while the reduction of its lines imbues this seating with a peerless richness.

Design: Paolo Piva
Model: DS 218

Udførelse: There is certain furniture that plays a decisive role in moulding the character of a room. What, for instance, would a bar or a club be without its stools? Would such animated discussions take place at the bar or would the general clubbing and lounging activity be observed so comfortably were it not for the ideal vantage point afforded by the stools. No other form of seating offers the unique combination of comfort, compactness and ease of movement. These are the ideal prerequisites for use in a communicative environment. And in combination with first-class design, a stool becomes not merely a highlight in functional, but also in visual terms. A place in this category surely belongs to the de Sede DS 218 stools created by acclaimed designer and architect Paolo Piva. The DS-218 represents the essence of Paolo Piva's design philosophy in concrete form: it offers no optical gimmickry, but instead concentrates on clear-cut structures, cubist forms, straight lines and a minimalist selection of materials. Available in two versions, these stools have totally different characters despite their having identical dimensions.

Model: DS 255

Udførelse: Apart from that ubiquitous status symbol, the motor-car, it is the chair that is the one contemporary industrial product that has most pre-occupied designers throug-hout the ages. No other has been so closely examined, celebrated and frequently subjected to such searching criticism as the chair. The DS 255 is, we are almost tempted to say, a late homage to Vassily Kandinsky, the Russian-French painter and founder of absolute art. The DS 255 armchair can justifiably be labelled "avant-garde". It differs from the mainstream pri-marily in the fact that it enters more consciously and directly into a dialogue with its user. It communicates attitudes, ideas and values. And here lies the crux of it all and its power of persuasion. It also demonstrates how the Design Team at de Sede pursues the pleasure principle with its interest in intelligent, constructive solutions using tubular steel. Sitting in the DS 255, you leave the tug of gravity behind you and break out from the tortuous paths of quotidian life. It represents fascination from start to finish: much like an agreeable infection with a high temperature.

Model: DS 256

Udførelse: Like a new grammatical declension in the idiom of design, the lines of the DS 256 from the de Sede Design Team forge an organic whole. It represents a purity of concept, an armchair that appears cast in a single stroke. With its one-piece upholstery, the chair exudes an unbearable lightness of being: its edges and curved sections strikingly underscored by the lapped seams. The unpretentious subframe with its discreetly flowing circular aluminium base-plate merges smoothly into the design of the armchair. Its tilt mechanism, height adjustment and comfortable angle of inclination give the DS 256 all the classic qualities of a handmade shoe from a master-cobbler’s last: it ensures an absolutely perfect fit. Its soaring armrests mirror the rhythmic wing beat of a flamingo. Sitting in this armchair, you rise effortlessly above the irksome tug of bourgeois gravity. It challenges us to reconsider the rigid concepts of form and function.

This gives the model a precision of contour that contrasts so tellingly with the irresistible softness of the upholstery. Udførelse: The DS-717 is the unequivocal expression of simplicity of form and unsurpassed functionality melded smoothly in a unique symbiosis of delight. In addition to the chair - with or without armrests - the same series also includes a barstool and lounge chair. All the chairs follow the same idea from Claudio Bellini, based on his understanding of what the precision mechanics of seating demands of design: the ultimate in comfort! The seat shells of the chairs are unalloyed ergonomic perfection - a rousing success for this innovative designer - while the chromium-plated steel tubing is the non-plus-ultra in shape. In the DS-717, seating becomes an act of sensuousness linked with unparalleled comfort. But seating can only be truly good when - in addition to aspects such as technology, material, ergonomics and tactility – it also explores human momentum and incorporates this as well. The work of Claudio Bellini does so in a manner that is unequalled today, thanks to his conviction that design in the final analysis serves but one purpose: to provide matchless quality – and to do so without compromise!

Udførelse: The DS-1064 can be compared only with the DS-164, since it hails from the same family and from the same creator … Hugo de Ruiter. It is neither sofa nor suite; it is most surely not a row of neatly arranged seating elements. Not in the slightest! It is a living environment that – looked at surrealistically – resembles a little city of seating. Its technology is a stroke of genius that has been elaborated from the DS-164. This means that its backrests can be moved easily to virtually any position desired. Added to this, its expanded modular system of seating elements affords possibilities of constructing a living environment to meet one’s own very individual requirements. This enables owners to create designs that reflect their mood of the moment and to alter them to keep abreast of every change they undergo. This makes for a tiny island of peace and security - not at the end of the world, but at our very feet … so that we can revel in a paradise of seating in our very own living rooms.
